Partner in Charge of the Audit Department

Mike knows auditing inside and out.  With more than 20 years of experience in public accounting, he is the partner in charge of Hayashi Wayland’s audit practice.  Prior to joining Hayashi Wayland in 2004, he spent six years working for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Silicon Valley audit practice.

Mike specializes in:
Audit, accounting, fraud examination and consulting services.

He is known for:
Being a good listener, detail-oriented and highly responsive. Mike is curious by nature, he is constantly asking his clients questions and having in-depth conversations with them to make sure he is doing everything he can for them. Mike works hard to keep his clients up to date with the changing technological world. He sees things through the eyes of clients, which serves as the basis of his attentive, client-centered approach.

He works with:
Clients in the agriculture, technology, consumer product industries, along with government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

His best capabilities are:
Tackling complex auditing and accounting issues, considering and analyzing a variety of alternatives and researching them thoroughly to find the correct answer. Mike works closely with his clients to ensure their results are accurate, efficient, and technologically sound while helping their organization make a substantial impact globally and within their communities. He’s also a pro at explaining the results of his research in easy-to-understand terms to help clients make solid decisions.

What Mike enjoys most about his job:
“I enjoy talking with my clients about the successes or challenges their organization is facing, especially when I can use my experience and expertise to help them solve their problems. I find that to be one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”

Community-minded:
Outside of Hayashi Wayland, Mike helps the community in several ways. He volunteers extensively, and serves as an Audit Committee Chair for the Hartnell College Foundation, as Treasurer and Board Member of the Salinas Downtown Rotary, as Accounting Advisory Board Member for Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo, as a Board Member for Partners and Peace, and as a Corporate Compliance and Audit Committee Member for Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System.

Mike’s a winner:
In 2013, the Salinas Rotary Club honored Mike’s exceptional service and named him Rotarian of the Year.

What you may not know about Mike…
Outside of the office and volunteer venues, Mike can be found on playing fields and in the ocean. He has three teenage children who play sports year-round, so he serves as their personal coach and cheering section. Mike is also an avid scuba diver, and enjoys underwater adventures in Monterey Bay, the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. His next stop? Belize, where he plans to dive in the “blue hole” and hopes to dive with a whale shark.
