HW Gives Back

HW Gives Back 2022
It’s become an annual tradition that Hayashi Wayland closes all of our offices for “HW Gives Back”. This event gives our team members the unique opportunity to give back to our community by providing a hands-on volunteer experience to local nonprofits throughout the Central Coast. This year we celebrated over a decade of giving back.
Over the years at our annual “HW Gives Back,” we have engaged in a wide variety of activities, such as preparing food for distribution at local food banks, deep cleaning animal shelters, performing needed repairs at youth centers, prepping, and serving lunch at a homeless kitchen, painting fences and clearing land at a local horse sanctuary, as well as cleaning and organizing for a number of local organizations.
This year we volunteered our time at Rancho Cielo Youth Campus whose vision is to transform the lives of marginalized youth and empower them to become accountable, competent, productive and responsible citizens. Our work was focused on refreshing the areas around the Leadership Garden, transitional housing and organizing large storage closets.
After all our work was completed, our team spent the afternoon enjoying lunch together and participating in team building events with fellow coworkers. This annual event brings our Hayashi Wayland team together in service and fellowship for a fun and heartwarming day.

HW Gives Back 2021
November 5, 2021
In 2021, we volunteered at two organizations that support and promote community events in Salinas. Our work was focused on refreshing the areas that welcome visitors, as these types of organizations were hit hard with the pandemic.
Half of our team spent the day at The Salinas Sports Complex Home of the California Rodeo Salinas.
The Salinas Sports Complex is operated by the California Rodeo Association, Inc., a nonprofit organization who gives back upwards of $500,000 to the local community each year. In partnership with the City of Salinas, the California Rodeo Association designed the Salinas Sports Complex to host not only the Rodeo but a wide variety of community and sports events.
Hayashi Wayland staff cleaned and painted fences, raked the grounds, painted the parking area curbs and bollards and stained the plywood flooring near the Director’s Patio among many other tasks.
The other half of our team worked at Salinas Storm House which is part of Salinas Girls Fastpitch Inc. (SGF), a nonprofit organization. SGF manages the Salinas Sports Complex Softball Facility which has 6 high quality softball/baseball diamonds as well as the Storm House which is a 15,000 square foot indoor practice facility which includes 9 retractable batting cages, indoor soccer field, office space, full concession area, weight/fitness room and storage.
Hayashi Wayland staff painted backstops, pressure washed stadium seating and bleachers, repainted the dugouts, cleaned the padding around the softball field and raked leaves all around the fences and bleachers. We also painted inside the Storm House and an office that needed a refresh.
After all our work had been completed, we spent the afternoon enjoying a wonderful lunch, and participating in events that continue to build community within our firm.
“HW Gives back is one of my favorite days of the year. I love getting out of the office and working side by side with my co-workers to make our community a better place. We get to know each other on a different level and share laughs all while providing necessary work to amazing nonprofit organizations!! Everyone leaves the event with a smile! It’s a win, win on so many levels!”
- Gina Cochetti
“HW Gives Back is an opportunity to work within our community walls and thank them for what they do in our own backyard. Not only do we get to build, paint, clean, sweep, and so on to help a local business, but we get to build bonds with our co-workers across the firm’s 4 offices. It’s a day full of hard work, fun, and respect for our city.”
- Gynny Reyes
“It is meaningful to me to work for a company that holds its values in integrity, and strives to create a better environment for our community.”
- Rebecca Schiveley
“When I first joined the HW team, one thing that stood out to me the most was the firms’ focus on giving back. Volunteering is something I have always enjoyed doing, so getting to have that aspect of my personal life coincide with my work life was great. I finally got to see this in action during my first “HW Gives Back” day 6 years ago. It feels good to work for a company that understands the value of community service and dedicates one day each year to show that commitment. It something that I, and I know many staff, look forward to participating in every year. This day really exemplifies something special that makes up the HW culture.”
