Summer Opportunities

About You

During the summer, we have opportunities available for students who are looking to pursue a career in Accounting. If you are a new student who might be considering the idea of accounting as your major or someone who has already declared and looking for some real world experience, we have an opportunity for you!

Our Summer Leadership Day is an opportunity for you to explore what Accounting is really all about! You may have already declared your major or maybe you are still exploring your options on what path to take. After a day with Hayashi Wayland, our goal is help solidify your career choice in accounting! This leadership day is an open house experience at our firm where you can learn how a CPA firm operates, learn about Hayashi Wayland’s line of services and departments, as well as some fun team building and networking opportunities with other students, staff and partners.

Event Details:

  • Program to be held onsite at Hayashi Wayland offices in Summer of 2022.

What to expect from the program:

  • Networking with our staff and partners
  • Participating in team building activities
  • Learn about the public accounting profession and receive an inside look at how a CPA firm operates
  • Presentations from different department representatives (Tax, Audit, Consulting and others)

Basic qualifications for program include:

  • Must have 3.0 GPA or above
  • Must be a 2nd year/sophomore standing student
  • Open to all interested majors

The right internship can be an influential part of shaping a successful and rewarding career. Our internships provide you with the same exposure as our associate hires and insight into the career opportunities and lifestyle of a public accounting firm. Internships typically run from the middle of June until the beginning of August; approximately 8 weeks. We begin interviewing in the Fall for positions the following summer.

What to expect from your internship:

  • Week of Welcome! A jam-packed, fun interactive week to introduce you to your new team members, our culture, and prepare you for your client services role
  • Hands-on experience working directly with key decision makers and company owners
  • Working with experts in the field on jobs in numerous industries
  • Networking with clients and personnel at Hayashi Wayland while participating in community events and social activities
  • Opportunity to work in our four office locations
  • Exposure to key financial workings of successful companies

Basic qualifications for an intern include:

  • 90 credit hours completed
  • Working towards a B.A/B.S degree or equivalent an accredited university
  • Ability to travel to assigned client locations and access to use of reliable modes of transportation to these locations
  • A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred

What you bring:

Must have the ability to handle multiple clients, be highly organized, and professional. Responsibilities will include:

  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable

  • Familiarity with Business Property Tax Statements and sales tax forms preferred

  • 20+ years of public accounting experience
  • Certified Public Accountant license required

What you bring:

Must have the ability to handle multiple clients, be highly organized, and professional. Payroll responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure all payrolls are processed in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Review computed wages and correct errors to ensure the accuracy of earnings;
  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws and tax calculations, taxable fringe benefits (i.e. group term life insurance), HSA reporting, and payroll deductions;
  • Assist with 401(k) and worker’s compensation annual audits;
  • Help with unemployment claims administration and respond to claims filed;
  • Assist with various payroll and management reports, journal entries, and workers compensation requests;
  • Understand and handle all garnishments, deductions, and vacation/sick accruals;
  • Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters;
  • Process manual/termination checks as requested.

Attention to detail and accuracy is a must as well as compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws. Applicant must possess knowledge of payroll taxes and have familiarity with filing all applicable federal and state tax forms. Excellent oral & written communication skills are mandatory. Knowledge of QuickBooks is preferred.

Busy CPA firm in search of a full-time payroll clerk. Must have the ability to handle multiple clients, be highly organized, and professional.

Location: Salinas, CA (in person only)

Essential Functions:

  • Timely and accurate processing of weekly payroll
  • Timely and accurate processing of payroll/data reports and other requests
  • Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
  • Maintaining payroll information by collating, calculating and entering data
  • Maintains compliance with all paper files, ensure an organized work space and accurate paper documents are maintained at all times
  • Timely and accurate follow up with employees on payroll related questions
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned such as but not limited to office administrative tasks
  • Ability to effectively communicate/ work with all levels of management within the organization
  • Maintains high ethical standard regarding work requirements
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of company information at all times

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
