1962-2010
Sunny Wong, CPA and a partner for Hayashi & Wayland, passed away Friday, October 16, 2010 after a brief but heroic battle with lung cancer. She was born in 1962 in Seoul, Korea and immigrated with her family to the United States in 1982.
Ms. Wong headed the Non-Profit and Government Specialization Team and was a member of the personnel committee at the firm, which she joined in 1993. Ms. Wong earned an AA in Business Administration from Hartnell College, and a BA in Accounting from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. In 2002 she received an Excellent Service Award from the Korean Chamber of Commerce of Monterey. Active in her community, she served as treasurer for ARIEL Theatrical, Inc., as well as Coastal Kids Home Care, Inc., was a member of the Korea Glory Presbyterian Church, and was deeply involved with the organization Families for Early Autism Treatment (FEAT).
In addition, Sunny was an avid runner who was proud to have completed the Big Sur Marathon many times and to have run in every Big Sur Half Marathon since its inception. She shared her love of running with the firm and organized the firm's Big Sur Marathon Relay Teams for many years.
She is survived by her husband Wesley Wong, of Salinas; children Kaylee, Derek and Alexis, all of Salinas; parents, Koo and Kyung-Soon Yoon; siblings, Jade and Steve Dixon, Jennifer and Jin Kim, and John Yoon, all of Stockton; Aunt Myung-cha and Uncle Tony Middleton, of Hollister; nieces Jessica and Christine Dixon, and Heidi Kim, all of Stockton; nephews Jonathan and Jacob Yoon, and Chris Kim, all of Stockton.
